How do I use the Boxlight AV in a Classroom?

Overlake classrooms use both Boxlight and Clevertouch interactive displays as part of the classroom Teaching Wall. These displays replaced traditional interactive projectors and provide a brighter, clearer, and more reliable way to share content from your computer. While they look different, they are used the same way at Overlake.

For most classroom use, connecting your computer using ScreenBeam for wireless screen sharing. You can also connect directly using USB-C, which provides a reliable wired connection and supports interactive touch on compatible devices.

Note: The newer Clevertouch displays include built-in applications and online services. Overlake uses these displays as a second screen for your computer. Please do not sign in to Google or other accounts directly on the display or use the built-in applications that require logging in or creating an account.


  • Power: Use the power button (center bottom of screen) to turn on the display.
  • Control: Pressing the floating pen or the sidebar button allows navigation between apps, change of inputs or access other tools for your classroom.

Note: The menus look different between Boxlight and the newer Clevertouch displays.

  • Video and Audio: The classroom displays support high-quality video and audio through both ScreenBeam and USB-C. For most classroom use, no additional setup is required.

Note: When using USB-C, volume may need to be adjusted within the application or Boxlight only.

  • Interactivity: The Boxlight and Clevertouch displays are touch-enabled, allowing you to interact with your connected computer using your fingers or the included stylus.

Touch functionality depends on your computer and connection method. For the most reliable interactive experience, use USB-C.


How to Connect

Option 1: Wireless connection

Windows

  1. Turn on the classroom display. 
  2. On your computer, press Windows + K. 
  3. Select the ScreenBeam for your classroom. 
  4. If prompted, look at your display for a 4-digit PIN, type it into your Windows prompt.
  5. Wait for your computer screen to appear on the classroom display.

Connect with USB-C

USB-C provides a direct wired connection between your computer and the classroom display.

Use USB-C if:

  • You prefer a wired connection. 
  • ScreenBeam is not working. 
  • Your wireless connection is unstable. 

Each classroom should have a USB-C cable available.

Mac

  1. Turn on the classroom display. 
  2. Open Control Center on your Mac. 
  3. Select Screen Mirroring. 
  4. Select the ScreenBeam for your classroom. 
  5. Wait for your Mac screen to appear on the classroom display.

Connect Your Computer

  1. Locate the USB-C cable at the classroom display. 
  2. Connect the cable to the USB-C port on your computer. 
  3. Connect the other end to the USB-C port on the front of the display. 
  4. Wait for your computer screen to appear. 
  5. If the display does not automatically switch, select the USB-C input.

The newer Clevertouch Pro Series supports video, audio, touch and charging through its front USB-C connection.
